When French journalist, Ulysse Mérou, travels to a distant planet in the far future, he discovers a world dominated and ruled by intelligent talking apes, with humans reduced to nothing more than primitive, feral creatures. After his exploration vessel lands, Ulysse finds himself captured by gorillas before being brought to a laboratory for experimentation, but uses his intelligence to gain recognition from a chimpanzee scientist, Zira. With Zira on his side, the two form a bond and learn to understand and trust each other, as she soon helps him uncover the true history of the ape-run planet. Here is my review of the book that inspired everything we know and love about our favorite ape-filled franchise, Pierre Boulle’s 1963 novel, LA PLANÈTE DES SINGES… aka THE MONKEY PLANET… aka PLANET OF THE APES.
