Lazar Berman Plays Liszt's Transcendental Etudes.

Lazar Berman (1930-2005) was a Soviet/Russian pianist. He was known for his bold, big, and fast playing. As can be heard on this recording, his approach to these difficult Liszt pieces was anything but shy and his technical ability was superb. Like other Soviet pianists of the time he had limited exposure in the West, at least until the mid-1970s. Berman made a huge impression in his first US tour and almost immediately put out several records - including this one. His style may not be for everyone, but it makes an indelible impression on the listener. This recording has a surface noise that I retained as any noise reduction took away greatly from the clarity of the recording.
