Watch as I make a bottle opener out of an old rusty railroad spike! I start off by drilling a 5/16" hold a little past the middle of the spike and use an angle grinder to remove the bulk of the material. Once I have a good lip established I then move onto the finish. The finish that I applied after cleaning the spike off is pure beeswax. After heating the spike to a straw yellow I applied the beeswax and continued applying heat until the metal turned black. I tested the finish by putting water on the spike and leaving it overnight. No rust at all, and in actuality the water beaded off immediately. Full disclosure, I the top tooth of the opener should have a little more aggressive hook, While this does work it is a little slippery. I hope you enjoyed this one, and please if you haven’t already, please like 👍 and subscribe 😁 You can also check this out on the blog https://imamaker.ca/2018/06/railroad-...
