The Jewellery Quarter is the jewel in the crown of Birmingham’s rich industrial past and exciting modern future, serving as a blueprint for urban regeneration. This high-profile square kilometre to the west of the city centre is critical to Birmingham's development masterplan. Hundreds of millions of pounds are being invested in residential development and infrastructure within the area. It is one of the most unique neighbourhoods in the country, with 40% of all jewellery made in the UK originating from the Jewellery Quarter. Hosted by Ian Griffin, deputy editor of Midlands Business Insider, this podcast brings together Lisa Dearing from Glancy Nicholls, a leading firm of architects based in the Jewellery Quarter; Darren Clarke from Arcadis, a leading consultancy; and András Kárpáti from Cordia UK, which is also based in the Jewellery Quarter and is sponsoring this podcast. Together, we look at how developers are transforming the quarter from what was a hodgepodge of artisan businesses into a thriving, aspirational community. The discussion explores the future investment opportunities in this unique neighbourhood, as well as how challenges can be overcome. The guests also discuss difficulties in securing funding and the importance of a strong public-private sector relationship. This podcast was sponsored by Cordia UK (https://cordia.uk/).
