Headphones recommended :) 0:00 - Intro 0:34 - Photos 0:47 - Video 3:00 - Comparison 3:59 - Conclusion Better quality: https://vimeo.com/835501164?share=copy Dear Ghosts, I have a newfound respect for macro B roll. I have to say it is actually kind of a pain in the ass and probably the least enjoyable aspect of these reviews but I understand why it is necessary. Although for these reviews I probably do want more modern and professional stabilization, I feel as though for some static macro shots, it ends up just looking like a photo. I am curious as to what you all think about the macro shots having a bit more handheld movement than the norm. I know it is kind of associated with my style, but I think sometimes it can be distracting. I think the music I made was better than last review, but it’s kind of difficult making 3+ tracks for each of these reviews. I’d love for content to be bespoke for every video but I don’t think it’s sustainable in the long term. That’s one thing that’s really fun about these videos. I’m still experimenting with different styles and themes and I’m able to do so since my channel is still quite small. I think like many other ghosts I used to be afraid of putting out content that isn’t my best but I realized that it’s actually a blessing to not be at full potential. Kind of like playing music live, once you get enough of a following you don’t have that freedom to just do whatever you want, you have a responsibility to entertain. If you only output perfect content when you’re ready then there’s no progression. Your future content has no room to improve, it’s a good reminder that it’s about the journey rather than the destination. 33mm f1.4 LM notes: So I daresay this is one of Fujifilm’s most cinematic modern lenses, if not their best. I think the XF 35mm f1.4 is also a cinematic lens, but in a vintage way. I do think that that lens is so special even for video, but I couldn’t deal with the autofocus. I obviously returned it because it wasn’t for me, so that should give you a better idea of what I consider “cinematic”. Of course the 33mm is going to look more digital and worse than the Otus for video, but I think the results were still quite good when you don’t have a direct comparison. You know sometimes I'm too big of a proponent of contrast, but I really do find low contrast vintage vibes less attractive even if it is more organic. I think i might prefer the 33mm for photos but I'll have to do more testing. The AF is perfect for photography but i guess my settings aren't optimized for video, overall it's a great lens with good sharpness and nice bokeh. I don't like shooting with this lens for video at f1.4, I think f2.8 is the sweet spot. Now I know most people prefer lenses with character but I prefer to leave the character in the color grade. If you watch modern films, most high production films have clean images otherwise it can distract from the story. I’ve been experimenting with different color grades recently. It’s actually hilarious, I recently found out a silver lining with my colorblindness. Because I can’t differentiate hues very well, I’m able to see contrast and color luminance more clearly than most people. I think that’s one of my biggest strengths when colorgrading and I only realized it when asking Chili what was the difference between two colors. She couldn’t tell, but I could tell there was a slight change in saturation. I now know why I have a good eye for lighting and exposure so don't let your insecurities stop you. By the way, never again shoot Eterna for quick turnarounds. For the first set of videos at the university, I filmed in Eterna because I thought I could do less work - nope you lose so much more time trying to make corrections. Anyhoo I did my best but the color was really hard to work with, dynamic range also suffered quite a bit, after that it was all flog2. Spend wisely.
