An Elvis Presley Las Vegas opening night was usually the time where Elvis would introduce new songs to his setlist, usually because the only rehearsals that Elvis and the band undertook, particularly in later years, was in preparation for a new Las Vegas engagement. In this regard Elvis' ninth Las Vegas engagement was no different as on opening night, 6 August 1973, Elvis introduced three new songs that evening, Trouble, Raised On Rock and My Boy. The latter of the three, My Boy, had yet to be recorded in the studio by Elvis and this first live performance can be heard elsewhere on my YouTube channel. The other two were introduced at the beginning of the show and were segued into a medley. The first of those was "Trouble' from King Creole recorded fifteen years earlier on 15 January 1958 at Radio Recorders in California. The second of the two was 'Raised On Rock' recently recorded just two weeks earlier on 23 July in Memphis at Stax Studios and would be released on the album of the same name later in the year. Whilst it appears that Elvis would never perform 'Raised On Rock' again after opening night, 'Trouble' would retained throughout the engagement. On closing night, 3 September, Elvis would use it as part of a tirade directed towards the hierarchy of the Hilton Hotel. That closing night version would be the last full version performed by Elvis although a couple of one verse only versions would be performed in Huntsville on 31 May 1975, cleverly used as an introduction to his new record 'T-R-O-U-B-L-E', and finally in Saginaw on 3 May 1977 during the final show of Elvis' third to last tour.
