Schwarzsee or Lac Noir (English: Black Lake), is a small lake in the Canton of Fribourg, Switzerland with an area of 0.47 km2 (0.18 sq mi). On the border of Romandie and German-speaking Switzerland, Schwarzsee is located at an altitude of 1047m in the middle of high mountains and an idyllic lake. The lake in the Swiss Prealps is bordered by the peaks of Schwyberg (1,628 m) in the West, Les Reccardets (1,923 m) and Spitzfluh (1,951 m) in the South, as well as Kaiseregg (2,185 m). Schwarzsee in Winter When the frosts follow the summer mildness, the Black Lake becomes a huge white circle and you can, depending on the weather conditions, take advantage of the frozen lake to practice skating, ice hockey, eisstock (petanque on ice), nostalgic sleigh rides and even cross-country skiing. A little frosty art aesthetes will find their master at the Ice Palace where every winter, Karl Neuhaus builds giganic buildings, real playgrounds. Otherwise, young and old can easily reach the Scharwzsee ski area (one of the 8 resorts in the Fribourg Alps) located at an altitude of 1,500 m and equipped with a chairlift and 6 ski lifts. In all, the skier has 22 km of beautiful slopes and modern snow cannons which quarantee optimum snow cover. A ski and snowboard school is available for those who would like to improve their ski & snowboard skills.
