In the North-Western part of Thailand, many young people of the Karen hill tribes face an uncertain future. With limited access to basic social services, training and employment, it has become increasingly difficult for them to earn a living. When they do venture to the large cities like Bangkok in search of employment, they are often exploited - ending up working in sweatshops or even sold into the sex trade. Fortunately, their fate has changed. With the joint-support of two NGOs: IECD, Institut Europeen de Cooperation et de Developpement and TBCAF, Tak Border Child Assistance Foundation, the HCTC or Hospitality & Catering Training Centre was established. HCTC is a vocational school that trains students in all aspects of the hospitality industry - here they learn Thai and Western style cooking, restaurant service, housekeeping and front of house skills. With Thailand’s booming hospitality industry, there are plenty of jobs available for dependable and qualified staff in the hospitality industry. What makes this project even more successful is that HCTC has partnered with Accor Hotels - one of the leading hotel chains in Thailand, to offer the students extended internships in their 4- and 5-star hotels as well as job placements after they complete their studies. This film tells the stories of Nut and Kasemsri, two young Karen people as they learn all about cooking and service. While studying at HCTC they expand not only their horizons but also their prospects though internships at the prestigious Novotel Bangkok Siam Square, and finally find their dream jobs.
