For the most part, RPG battle themes are all about the energy and atmosphere they produce to get you motivated and immersed...I think, at least. Also so you can feel like the raddest dude. However, there are games that play with the formula, using more of the atmosphere to their advantage. That's what I attempted to do with this one here. The super basic premise for it is "hunting ghosts with futuristic weapons". The synthwave aspects are to represent the future. The classical bits represent the past (for the ghosts). The overall mood of the song is to reflect the story and atmosphere. Out of the all the RPG battle themes I've made, this one is probably the most different (and one of my favorites).
