Artist Profile: Brian Frederiksen

Welcome Brian Frederiksen and hear about his journey as an artist! "I am an artist and printmaker inspired by my relationship with landscapes. My work investigates my relationship to man-made objects, the places they are situated, and the tensions, harmonies, and personal narratives between them. I use photographs, drawings and painted studies to set up the reduction prints. The monoprints are often a spontaneous thought expressed in a singular print. The reduction relief print process expresses the image best for the way I think. I am painting with shapes of color in a limiting process. The print and the scene share mortality as I carve away the surface until nothing is left. The image emerges as its vehicle of conveyance is destroyed. It parallels the field reclaiming the decaying dilapidated billboard. I ask what identity the scene wants to share with me."
