I Could Read This Book Over and Over For the Rest of My Life: Infinite Jest

I'll start this info box by saying that by big dream is to connect with a Metamodern society. I'm hoping that with these videos I can find people who share these values, who have tired of Postmodernism, and are looking to build communities from healthy relationships values, psychological wellbeing, and compassion. I'm going to talk more about Metamodernism in future videos. Most of what I learned came from the work of Hanzi Freinacht. You can get book 1 of his series here - https://amzn.to/4b3aZ4I And so, Metamodernism is what really got me to give Infinite Jest a try. After resisting this book for 20 years, I started reading it in 2024. It took me over half a year to get through, and now that I'm done, I actually really miss it, and want to read it again. Not many books do that to me. I can only remember this happening one other time. Infinite Jest was presented to me when I was in Uni as a masterpiece of an era I didn't like. Postmodernism was boring to me. I loved Romantic, Victorian, and early Modern writing. Postmodern authors never did it for me, and postmodernism as a whole, while it was doing important work, was also a dead end, and the seed that grew into the Doom Scroll. I finally bought this book because, honestly, I read very fast and I kept ripping through €20 books in a week or so. I wanted something huge that would take me a long time to read. And, even thought this book is over 1000 pages of the tiniest text I've seen in a published book, it's still not enough. I talked a lot about how this is the first empathetic book I've ever read. It's also just beautifully written, and has amazing insights. Here's one: "This wise old whiskery fish swims up to three young fish and goes, 'Morning, boys, how's the water?' and swims away; and the three young fish watch him swim away and look at each other and go, 'What the f**k is water?' and swim away." How much of our environment are we taking for granted? Right? Right! Ah. I love this book. I hope you give it a shot and dig into it as well.
