*Race Report – GXUK Senior Round 5 at Clay Pigeon Raceway* Welcome back to my channel, where I bring you the latest from my go-karting journey! Today, we’re diving into my experience racing in the fifth round of the *GXUK Senior Championship* at the historic **Clay Pigeon Raceway**. This track, renowned for its fast-paced action and technical challenges, was a perfect setting for a weekend of intense racing. The Venue: Clay Pigeon Raceway Clay Pigeon Raceway is one of the UK's most iconic karting circuits. Located in Dorset, it’s a 815-meter track that has seen some of the most legendary names in motorsport grace its asphalt, including F1 superstar **Jenson Button**, who got his start here. The layout is a mix of fast straights and tricky technical corners, demanding precision, focus, and aggression to secure the best lap times. The mix of wide open sections and tight, twisty hairpins makes for an exciting and tactical race, where overtaking opportunities are plentiful but risky. The Championship: GXUK Senior The *GXUK Senior Championship* is one of the most competitive karting series in the UK, bringing together some of the best drivers in the country. The level of skill and competition in the GXUK is incredible, with every race being a battle for position right from the green light to the chequered flag. With championship points on the line and each round being critical to the overall standings, this round at Clay Pigeon was another important step towards the title. Heat 1 – Starting 12th, Finishing 8th The first heat saw me starting from *P12* on the grid. With a mid-pack start, the challenge was to navigate through the bustling crowd while keeping a clean line. Clay Pigeon’s opening corners are always a chaotic affair, and this race was no exception. The first few laps were all about finding the balance between being aggressive enough to make up positions and being cautious to avoid incidents. By lap three, I had found a good rhythm and was making consistent gains, capitalizing on other drivers’ mistakes and managing to defend well in some tight battles. After a solid 10-lap heat, I crossed the line in **P8**, gaining four positions. While it wasn’t a podium finish, moving up the order from a tough starting spot was definitely a positive way to start the day. Heat 2 – Pole to Victory! Wonderful battle with those around me. Lost the lead off the start but gained it back again on the last lap 🤩! Heat 3 – From P21 to P11 The third heat was a true test of grit and determination. Starting from *P21* in a crowded grid is never easy, but with overtaking opportunities available at Clay Pigeon, I knew I could make up positions. The key was to stay out of trouble, especially in the opening laps where the midfield can get congested. I pushed hard from the start, picking off drivers one by one, taking advantage of slipstreams down the straights, and executing clean overtakes in the braking zones. By halfway through the race, I had climbed into the mid-teens, and I kept the pressure on for the remainder of the heat. After a hard-fought race, I finished in **P11**, a ten-place gain and another satisfying result. The Final – P4 Start, P4 Finish The final is where it all counts, and starting from *P4* put me in a strong position to challenge for the podium. The lights went out, and the race immediately settled into a fierce contest. The front-runners were tightly packed, and while I pushed to hold my position, overtaking proved to be more difficult as the leaders were just as quick and defensive as I was. Despite my best efforts, there wasn’t quite enough of a gap to make a move for the podium positions, but I maintained my pace and focus to secure *P4* at the chequered flag. While it’s always a bit bittersweet to finish just outside the top three, fourth place in a final is a solid result, especially considering the level of competition in the GXUK Senior class. Closing Thoughts Round 5 at Clay Pigeon was an eventful and rewarding weekend. From a podium in Heat 2 to a strong finish in the final, I’m feeling positive about the direction this championship is heading. Each race is a learning experience, and I’m more motivated than ever to keep pushing towards the top of the standings.
