Mexico's INSANE Bulls of Fire Festival (Got Burned)

The Bulls of Fire have many names; “Toros de Fuego, “Toros de fuegos artificiales”, or simply “Toritos” aka “little bulls”. Tultepec, a small town in the State of Mexico has fully embraced these spinning firework covered paper animals, to the point that over 500 will be lit on fire for this year’s 2018 Feria Nacional de la Pirotecnia, The Mexican National Pyrotechnic Festival. One of the craziest festivals I have ever been to. Every year just an hour north of Mexico City, Tultepec has this 10 day festival celebrating the patron saint of Fireworks, Juan de Dios. This community is known throughout the country for it’s homemade fireworks. Most families here have ties to the pyrotechnic industry, and it is evident, as many wear the scars of their work proudly. Originally from Spain, the Fire Bulls can be seen across Latin America under the name Vaca Locas or Crazy Cows. The origin of the bulls is thought to have been a spin off of the actual Bulls of Fire, where wicks are tied to the horns of real animals. Honestly, I’m not sure which is more dangerous. Running from a single angry bull with two horns of fire, or from 20 drunk men pushing a paper-made, rocket covered bull the size of a bus… both I’m sure get the adrenaline flowing pretty fast. Family, neighbourhoods, and friends get together to make these beautiful creations and parade them through the town before the big event later that night. In the video you can see two things, that the festival is quite dangerous, and that the people were incredibly friendly. We felt like family, and were approached countless times for pictures, smiles, and glasses of Pulque (a fermented cactus drink). Mexico knows how to make you feel like home. Attending this event will be a memory that will be with me for the rest of my life. Enjoy this adventure travel vlog.
