Here's my take on Cole Porter's 'You're the Top', recorded live at Mr. Vain / mrvainbrisbane and featuring Chris James on alto saxophone / chris_.jam 'You're the Top' was written for Porter's 1934 musical 'Anything Goes', and went on to become the most popular song from the musical. Both Porter's original lyrics and subsequent adaptations include many references to the popular culture of the time. It also became a popular pastime to parodise the lyrics, and the song's lyrics have also been adapted for use in various advertising campaigns. The best-selling recording of 'You're the Top' was by Paul Whiteman and His Orchestra, and it has also been recorded by Ella Fitzgerald, Sammy Davis Jr., Carmen McRae, Barbra Streisand, Stacey Kent, Louis Armstrong, Anita O'Day, Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga, Bing Crosby, Ethel Merman, and many others.
