Culture Newfoundland and Labrador is a Canadian province that boasts a rich and unique culture deeply rooted in its history and geography. Its music culture is rich in traditional music. So music is a big part of life in the province with a strong tradition of folk music. It includes fiddling, accordion playing, and the use of unique instruments like the ugly stick. The province also has a rich oral tradition, which includes storytelling which features stories, folklore, and legends passed down through generations. There are also tales of seafarers, pirates, and mythical creatures. It’s also rich in festivals and celebrations. George Street Festival held in St. John's is one of the biggest and oldest music festivals in the country. Regatta Day is an annual event in the province featuring rowing races, celebrated with much enthusiasm. It’s North America’s oldest organized sporting event. 7. Entertainment There’s music everywhere in Newfoundland. The province is an entertainment province. Go downtown late at night and you’ll see couples dancing to music such as "Sonny’s Dream" at O’Reilly’s. This place is full of plenty of talent and everyone everywhere here’s supporting the local music and entertainment scene the best way they can. If you move down to this place during summertime, you’ll applaud its plenty of opportunity to get out and do something entertaining.
