In Delhi, where nighttime temperatures can reach 95 degrees Fahrenheit, traditional air conditioning isn’t always reliable — or sustainable. Architect Monish Siripurapu uses terracotta and evaporative cooling to design low-tech systems that help keep homes cool without overloading the power grid. Reporter Sushmita Pathak visits his studio to learn more about CoolAnt, and how its designs, which are inspired by matkas, beehives, binaries and jalis, adapt ancient techniques for today’s climate.
