Derby Arena Launch Event

The official opening of the Arena was marked with a special launch evening that took place on Thursday 19 March. The launch event welcomed hundreds of local people, as well as sporting and cultural celebrities who were able to explore the iconic new venue for the first time. Between the sporting and cultural celebrities Derby Arena welcomed Dame Margaret Beckett, Councillor Alison Martin, Councillor Ranjit Banwait, Dame Sarah Storey, Sir David Brailsford and Geoff Cooke. Audience members had the chance to experience the Arena in its many guises and manifestations. Different activities took place throughout the Arena in a multitude of locations, which guests had the opportunity to explore. Our guests were then encouraged to take their seats for a spectacular sporting, cycling and cultural showcase. Some of the cultural performances included Calidoscopio, Pedal Powered Party, Legwarmerz, Sports Day, Adjudicators, Jazz Undead, Kezia Gill, Lost Boys, Lucille, Street Aquatic, Hubbub Theatre Company and a range of great local musicians. Sporting performances were delivered by Darkstar Velleyball Club, FS Derby, Derbyshire Institute of Sport, whilst cycling was delivered by Face Partnership.
