NOTE For residential premises, see also 9.5.3. 9.5.3 Installation division 9.5.3.1 Every point of use intended to supply, exclusively or virtually dedicatedly, equipment with a nominal current exceeding 10 A shall constitute an independent circuit. 9.5.3.2 Socket-outlets in kitchens, pantries, pantries, service areas, laundries and similar premises shall be served by circuits exclusively intended to supply socket-outlets in these premises. 9.5.3.3 In residential areas, as an exception to the general rule of 4.2.5.5, it is permitted that socket outlets, except those indicated in 9.5.3.2, and lighting points may be supplied by a common circuit, provided that the following conditions are simultaneously met: a) the design current (IB) of the common circuit (lighting plus sockets) must not be greater than 16 A; b) the lighting points are not supplied, in their entirety, by a single circuit, if this circuit is common (lighting plus sockets); and c) the socket outlets, excluding those indicated in 9.5.3.2, are not supplied, in their entirety, by a single circuit, if this circuit is common (lighting plus sockets). So we can see that the installation of sockets in lighting circuits is permitted, provided that the conditions mentioned in NBR-5410 are met.
