1 Yen Challenge - Kenwood (DMC-T55) Sharp (MD-DR7) MiniDisc Player Recorder Repair - Fixable or Not?

This was a fun little "challenge". As I was browsing Buyee/Yahoo Japan Auctions, I threw a bid on this lot of two "broken" MiniDisc player/recorders. One is a Kenwood DMC-T55 that they said wouldn't power on for more than 1 second, while the other was a Sharp MD-DR7 (with dock and power supply) that they said wouldn't power on at all. I woke up the next morning with the winning bid of 1 yen! Sure, it cost a bit more to actually ship it to me, but let's not spoil the fun, shall we? As usual, we'll test both devices with batteries and AC power to see what might be working. After that, we'll get in and clean/lube or whatever else might be ailing it!
