The University of Hawaii men's basketball team arrived early Wednesday morning in Nevada. And just hours later, were on the practice court at Arbor View High School in Las Vegas. Gearing up for the Big West Tournament in Henderson later this week. Now the 'Bows, at 22-8 overall, are the number two seed in the tourney and receive the double bye in the Friday's semifinal rounds over the coming days. The focus for Head Coach Eran Ganot in company, especially because there were an older team, is on recovery and re-energizing from a long regular season as U-H attempts to cut down the nets for the first time in a decade. "We've always tried to balance the mental and the physical, especially in a long grind and a journey, but especially with what our group's been going through and how much they've been given us. That was the reward of advancing to the semis and not playing till Friday. Usually we've been going to that Thursday, to that Thursday we get an extra day, but we still have to get better. So, you know, we got to find ways to get better while keeping our guys fresh. And they've done a really good job of that all year," said Ganot. "It's March, so, we're excited for for the games for who were paired up with and matched up with, obviously we're trying to take it one game at a time. Prep, but I think today we did a really good job. We locked in, but we got a little bit of our our joy back and some swagger and just having fun. And so it's a, it's a fun time of life. But we got one game at a time. So first one coming up Friday," said Hawaii's Isaac Johnson. "It's fun. I mean, this is what you live for, these, these kind of games. Where it rides everything rides on this. And we've worked all season for this moment. And, you know, we couldn't be more ready. Obviously, we had two guys go out, but, we got a really good team and we got guys that contribute in every single game. And you never know what's going to happen. Who's going to lead our team in scoring, who's going to lead our team in anything. Honestly. And I think that's what's dangerous about us. And we're ready to go," said Hawaii's Hunter Erickson. Interesting note, UH got the practice court time at Arbor View High School. Thanks to former U-H standout Troy Hostler, who played in an NCAA tournament with the Rainbow Warriors in the early 2000. He's now the head coach of the Aggies. To hear from him, head to Rob DeMello Social media. The Rainbow Warriors won't play until Friday's semifinal round against a two be determined opponent.
