Here is a video explaining how I water my mounted orchids, depending on the type of mount I have, my environment and the season. Since it is summer time here, my mounts receive daily soaks in water. It is not enough to just spray some water on them. Soaking has the benefit of saturating roots with water and also making the wood or bark itself saturate with water to some extent. Most of my mounted orchids get watered in the bucket that I keep on my balcony. Since they float this is easier for me. If I might have some new growths on my orchids, I would possibly remove the excess water, but usually it is so drafty and warm that the water evaporates really hast, by noon usually. The ceramic slab gets watered separately because it is heavy and will not float. If I were to water it in the bucket it would sink to the bottom and getting it back is just not comfortable :P I have some small baskets as well, they have a bit of sphagnum moss media so they don't need daily soaks. I water them about every 2 days, just submerging the basket for a few seconds in water. In the winter time for me it is pretty cold, less ventilated since my windows are shut and also more humid. For this reason soaks are not necessary, I usually run some water over the mounts from the sink, or a spray bottle. In winter time I might not water them daily, but every 2 or 3 days. So the best thing to do is to adapt your watering to your growing conditions and environment. The more drafty and warm it is, the more water will be needed. The opposite is valid as well, in wet or cold environments, soaks are not needed usually. Take into account the season as well, particularly if your growing space is influenced by the changes.
