Pursued Economy: Understanding and Overcoming the Challenging New Realities for Advanced Economies

Please join CSIS for a special discussion with Dr. Richard Koo, chief economist at Nomura Research Institute and author of Pursued Economy: Understanding and Overcoming the Challenging New Realities for Advanced Economies. Dr. Koo is described by Financial Times’ columnist Martin Wolf as “the most original thinker in macroeconomics of the past two decades,” and he is credited with creating the concept of a “balance sheet recession” in his extensive work covering Japan’s decades-long recession. In Pursued Economy, Dr. Koo argues that economic planners continue to work from policy assumptions that are no longer suited for current circumstances. He asserts that policy makers over-rely on monetary policy and under-rely on fiscal policy, which causes distortions in the economy and worsens inequality in advanced economies.
