Flight experience on board the world's oldest flying McDonnell Douglas MD-87 On Friday I had a special opportunity to fly on board the oldest flying MD-87 as DAT operated Scandinavian Airlines' HEL - ARN sector for one day. SK703 was normally operated by Blue1's B717s but now when they are out of service SAS had to wet lease some planes from DAT because of the lack of capacity. Luckily SAS chose to lease also OY-JRU and as soon as I noticed the aircraft change I was planning my MD-87 round-trip to Arlanda. This was the first of Friday's eight MD-87 flights between Helsinki and Stockholm. After doing some plane spotting at ARN I eventually came back home on board the same MD-87 on the day's last flight, SK724. Ten years ago I flew on board Finnair's MD-83 (OH-___) to Skiathos so this was actually my second type of Mad Dog to travelled on (if B717 not included)! Being able to fly again on a MD felt like a distant dream for me, but when Blue1's last B717 flight wasn't operated by a B717 and replaced by this old lady I suddenly found myself sitting on board a (cramped but) nostalgic Mad Dog. At the moment I am working on many trip reports and flight experience videos at the moment... Such as Finnair A350 and Blue1 717s. This one however contains all the main stages of the flight: Views of Terminal 1, borading, taxi, takeoff, cabin views, descend and landing! I'll soon include a list of different flight stages below from where you can choose what to watch if so desired... Summary: The flight experience on board this classic Mad Dog was absolutely amazing! Naturally, I can easily overlook the cramped cabin, since this flight was all about the MD-87 and all the nostalgic features it has to offer. Despite the age of OY-JRU the cabin was really clean and seats compreable to the ones Blue1 had. The service on board was really great too and we were welcomed aboard with wide smile which lastet the whole flight. The onboard service seemed to be standard for SAS's domestic service which included complimentary coffee, tea and water. In addition DAT had their own beverage cards in the seat pockets, but I'm not sure if it was possible to order something from them. Since the flight is airborne for only 40 minutes it was really only coffee and tea they had time to serve but that's obviously enough for such a short flight. Overall this was really really nice flight experience and even exceeded my expectations because of the nice atmosphere in the cabin! Big thank you to the whole crew for this amazing flight experience on board the MD-87! _________________________________________________________________ Likes, comments and subscriptions are always welcome and much appreciated! :) Please watch in FullHD! © ViewsOfFlying 2015
