It was 20 degrees outside. I was walking and the sun came out. What a welcome blessing to feel its warmth on my skin!! It made me realize how much more I appreciate the sun coming out in winter, when I’m cold, than in summer when I’m already warm. From that moment sprang this prayer and the rest of the song soon followed. I dedicate this song to my father Sam, born in the winter and open to Nature in all her seasons. Sherry Zitter, 12/95 WINTER SUN FIRST CHORUS: May the warm winter sun shine upon you, And may the wintry winds not reach you ‘til their chill is gone, May you always find a place in the hearts of those you love, And may the warm winter sun shine on... 1. Winter spreads her mantle of snow upon the earth, We stay close to home and huddle from the cold, A time for introspection, for reflections on the year, A time to hear the old tales re-told. (Repeat first chorus) 2. The muds and buds of spring arrive, The earth awakes again! We feel her in our bones and joy abounds... Everything seems possible, as life bursts forth anew, Our hearts are full of sights and scents and sounds. SECOND CHORUS: And may the sweet vernal sun shine upon you, May your dreams grow and blossom ‘neath the springtime rain, May you always find a place in the hearts of those you love, And may that loving heal your heart from pain. 3. Oh, the livin’ it is easy when comes the summertime, In a languid lake I’m wiggling my toes, The sun shines on for hours, the weather’s so sublime, And inside our hearts that warmth of summer glows. THIRD CHORUS: And may the summer sun not shine too strong upon you, May it mostly find you safely in the shade, May you feel the blessings sweet of the magic ‘neath your feet, The miracles of summertime’s parade... And may you always find a place in the hearts of those you love, They’re the miracles of which our lives are made! 4. In tawny colors, autumn dances lightly on the earth, Preparing for the winter coming soon. She gathers up the last of summer’s passions on her way And harvests them... under a crystal moon. FOURTH CHORUS: And may that full moon shine steadily [rise shimmering] upon you, And may its light within your soul shine clear, May you always find a place in the hearts of those you love, And may your harvest be sweeter every year (repeat first chorus, and repeat last line.)
