Experience Michael Daugherty’s Blue Electra, a violin concerto inspired by the legendary Amelia Earhart, performed by the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Gianandrea Noseda. Featuring the brilliant Anne Akiko Myers, this performance of Movement 2: Paris 1932 captures the energy and elegance of Earhart’s time in Paris—a city that symbolized adventure, innovation, and her pioneering spirit. Commissioned for and written specifically for Anne Akiko Myers, Blue Electra was premiered with the National Symphony Orchestra at the Kennedy Center on November 10, 2022. Daugherty’s bold orchestral writing, combined with Myers’ virtuosic interpretation, brings Earhart’s story to life through soaring melodies and evocative textures. About Blue Electra Completed in 2022, Blue Electra is inspired by the life and mysterious disappearance of Amelia Earhart (1897–1937), who vanished while flying her “Electra” airplane over the Pacific Ocean. Known as the “Queen of the Air”, Earhart was a pioneering aviator, an aviation professor at Purdue University, and a prolific writer.
