Eddie Elkins' Orchestra "Love Tales" 1923 Columbia A3940 Vincent Rose song Edward G. (Eddie) Elkins was born on February 15, 1897, in San Francisco. He was a violinist and band leader who enjoyed success in the 1920s as a recording artist. He recorded many titles for Columbia from late 1921 to 1925. His music was issued on Gennett and other labels, too. Some labels identify his ensemble as Eddie Elkins' Orchestra, but some others use the name the Knickerbocker Orchestra (and labels add the information that the group is led by Eddie Elkins). In England, labels used the name Regal Novelty Orchestra. His ensemble pleased crowds at the Knickerbocker Grill in New York City. Elkins was also engaged by the Pavillion Royal Hotel. His musicians were mostly from California though he also hired Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Red Nichols, and Oscar Levant He later worked for Hollywood studios. Here are some musicians employed by Eddie Elkins: Joseph Colling and Hymie Farberman, trumpets George Crozier, trombone Loren McMurray, George Vaughn, and Charles Strickfadden, reeds W. E. "Jack" Frost, bass saxophone and tuba Thomas Swift, piano Matt E. Grogan, banjo George Marsh, drums His last recordings were made for Perfect Records in April 1934. He died in his Manhattan home on October 6, 1984, at age 87. He was survived by his wife and two daughters, Suzanne Elkins Rose of Chicago and Christine Elkins of Aspen, Colorado.
