The people of Uttarakhand have a rich tradition of folk deity worship along with Lord Shiva and Devi Parvati. The heroes of some long-forgotten age have later on become folk gods and they give expression to the popular beliefs of the people. Mythological Backstory: There are many legends behind this place. It is believed that in the Ramayana when Ravana's son Indrajit (Meghnad) used a powerful weapon at Lakshmana. Lakshmana fell unconscious and near death. Hanuman approached the Raja Vaidya (Royal Physician) of Lanka named Sushena for advice. Sushena asked Hanuman to rush to Dronagiri Hills (Located in Uttarakhand) and fetch four plants. One of those plants was Sanjeevani (Mruthasanjeevani) plant which is known for its abilities to restore the life if used on time, before death. Upon reaching Dronagiri Parvata, Hanuman could not identify the herb and lifted the whole mountain to bring it to the battlefield in Lanka. When Hanuman was bringing the whole mountain with him, some parts from that mountain felled on ground and one of the part is known to be dropped here on his way to Lanka and formed this mountain. It is also believed that Lord Shiva stayed here for a long time in a cave (about 50 feet). Which is situated little below the Goddess Jayanti temple which is situated at the peak of this mountain. Call of Dhwaj: Years ago my mother visited Dhwaj temple once. At that time it was snowing there. I never saw snow before that so mother brought the snow in a tiffin to show us and after one or two days, for the first time in my life it snowed in my village. My mother used to tell me about the beauty of Dhwaj and now I finally got a change to explore that place which is full of flora and mythologies.
