Richard Cesilio Galvan, a resident of Moss Landing, passed away at his home on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at the age of 93. Richard was born in Hanford, California, on July 2, 1932, to his proud parents, Adelario and Feliciana Galvan. He moved to the Moss Landing area with his family as a young child and attended local schools. After graduating from Watsonville High School in 1950, he enlisted in the Air Force and served as a Staff Sargent, in the Korean War, and in Alaska with the food service squadron. He was honorably discharged in 1959. Richard was very proud of serving his country, and in 2015 he was interviewed about his military service by a young college student named Francisco Lopez. This interview video was later selected and saved at www.memory.loc.gov. Richard pursued higher education and graduated from San Jose City College with an A.A. degree in 1958. Several years later, he went to Monterey Peninsula College from 1974-1975 and was very proud of his 4.0 GPA. He met and married the love of his life, Inez Diaz, and together they raised their family and shared many wonderful years of marriage until his passing. Richard worked hard to provide for his family. He began his career at S.J. Ford Motor Company in the 50s, then went on to work at Watsonville Green Giant. In time, this prepared him to open his own company (another accomplishment of which he was very proud of), R. Galvan & Sons, where he specialized in growing and packing Brussel sprouts (and other vegetables) through Capurro Ranch, which he operated until his retirement. Richard loved his family above all else and truly enjoyed family gatherings and reunions. He loved spending time with his family, especially his numerous grands, great-grand, and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom he cherished deeply. In his free time, he loved golfing and fishing. He was a loving father and grandfather and will be dearly missed by his family and many friends. Richard is survived by his devoted wife of 74 years, Inez Galvan, his children, Steven (Terry Gomez) Galvan, Lisa (Ruben Lopez) Galvan, and Yolanda Miranda, as well as his grandchildren, Richard (Eric), Julie, Misty, Steven, Joshua, and Natalie Galvan, and Mark, Adrian, Paul, and Steven Chacon. He also leaves behind 12 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his son Richard Chris Galvan, his daughter Elizabeth Galvan, and his siblings, 4 sisters, and 2 brothers. Richard will be laid to rest on Friday, November 14, 2025, at Pajaro Valley Memorial Park – 127 Hecker Pass Road, Watsonville, CA 95076, at 11:00 am. Mehl’s Colonial Chapel has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
