In this Kingdom Come: Deliverance II task, The Axe from the Lake, we set out on a legendary treasure hunt that begins with an old tale of greed, horror or fate, whichever story you chose.... This task, found in the Trosky region, takes us through dense forests, rocky hills, and forgotten gravesites to unearth a weapon steeped in local folklore. To start the task, find Zdenyek the Mouth near Tachov Inn—either inside or working in the yard behind it. Let him recount one of his many versions of an axe that carries so much power, it still echoes through the tales of a community. A weapon of such sinister repute that it was cast away and buried to erase its memory. This axe, according to Zdenyek, lies somewhere southwest of Tachov, west of Zhelejov, waiting for a determined soul to reclaim it. Finding the Lost Axe Armed with a shovel, set off towards the marked search area. The directions may sound cryptic, but Henry will recall the key details of the story as you progress. Begin by finding the wooden deck in the center of the pond, then follow the path northward. Pass between two large rocks as you ascend the hill. Look for an oak tree on your left—a marker that you’re on the right path. Continue north until you see a massive stone in the middle of the hillside. Finally, head further north until you reach the overlook with a view of Vidlak Lake—the site of the hidden grave. At this lonely burial site, dig up the grave and loot its contents—you will finally lay hands on the cursed axe of legend. Forging the Adorned Axe Your task isn’t over yet. Return to Tachov and use the Anvil to craft the Adorned Axe, reforging the deadly weapon into something new. Once finished, bring the completed axe back to Zdenyek to conclude the task. The Story Behind the Axe The tale of the Axe from the Lake reflects the turbulent reality of local folklore, enhancing fears and tearing families apart (dependent on your requested story). Such stories weren’t uncommon in 15th-century Bohemia, where land disputes and inheritance conflicts often led to bloodshed. Even in death, these tragic events left their mark on local lore, whispered by innkeepers and old hunters like Zdenyek. Perhaps this axe is more than just a weapon—it is a warning, a reminder of how quickly ambition can turn to ruin.
