Are you looking to add some personality to your cowgirl boots? Is your old country pair is stuffed away in the closet? It’s time to transform those brown boots of yours into a beautiful pair using Metallic Foils! All it takes is your creative imagination, Metallic Foils and some Foil Adhesive to create your own pair of cute cowgirl boots. In the video above I will take you through step-by-step on how to make it happen. Metallic Foil - What is Metallic Foil? They are a metallization on the back of cellophane. This metallization is the color or pattern! For the pattern to transfer your surface must be really sticky, so I created Foil Adhesive. This adhesive is brushed on and “dries” to a firm tack. Choose Your Design - The color and design of your boots is completely up to you! For my pair I am using Silver Leopard and Seafoam. I have a variety of colors and pattern available on my website to help create your unique, creative cowgirl boots. Don’t be afraid to combine different designs and colors too! Before you apply the foils to the boots, you are going to want to test your vision. I like to do this on any piece of scrap wood I have lying around. I always love to have a visual before I get started. Prepping the Boots - If you have fake, leather boots you will need to need to seal them before we apply the foil adhesive. I always like to use Top Coat – available on my website. Those with real leather boots do not need to seal your boots. Now, with your favorite brush, you will want to brush on a nice layer of Foil Adhesive over the area of the boot you want to add foil to. For this pair I added it to the entire boots, but you could just add to the top or bottom if you desire. After you’ve added the adhesive, you will need to let it dry for at least 30-60 minutes. Transferring the Metallic Foils - Whether you start on the bottom or top section is up to you. I decided to start by adding the Seafoam first. Using the Flat Lying technique and my scrub brushed, I rubbed the foil onto the boot. I started off with a lighter pressure when rubbing because of not wanting the full transfer. After all little rubbing, I lifted a corner to see how much of the turquoise had transferred. If you want more you can rub a little harder until you get the amount you want. After applying the Seafoam, it was time for the Silver Leopard. Because of the tricky shape to the bottom, I cut my foils into smaller pieces. Piece by piece I added the Leopard around the boot going for a full transfer this time. Finishing Touch – Once I was done transferring the foil over the entire cowgirl boots, it was time to seal them. This has to be done or the foil could rub off, and we don’t want that! When sealing, you want to make sure you are using a product that will stay flexible and not get stiff – you don’t want your boots to crack. I have used both Final Coat and Gold Paintworks (Lifestyle Finishes) Top Coat, and they both work wonderfully Final Thoughts – Wow! Sometimes you start a project and you’re not exactly sure if your idea will turn out as well as you imagine. This time, it exceeded my expectations!! I hope this has inspired you to get creative and make your own pair. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out! Lastly, if you do end up making a pair, please share!
