This walk begins at the Mercado Municipal de Matosinhos, a lively local market known for its fresh seafood and authentic atmosphere. From there, we follow the old Rua de Brito Capelo tramlines, taking in the mix of traditional shops and everyday street life on a quiet summer day before branching off into quieter backstreets that lead us toward the coast. Along the way, we pass a striking mural — Freedom Fighter by Portuguese artist MrDheo — before continuing down Rua Roberto Ivens, one of Matosinhos’ central avenues. The walk then opens out to the wide sands of Praia de Matosinhos, a popular beach framed by cafés, surf schools, and ocean views. We finish at the dramatic sculpture known as A Anémona (The Anemone) in Praça da Cidade do Salvador, a modern landmark symbolizing the city’s deep connection to the sea. From market halls to murals, side streets to the seafront, this route captures Matosinhos’ blend of everyday life, street art, and coastal beauty.
