2026 Killam NRC Paul Corkum Fellowship recipient Dr. Shabir Barzanjeh

Dr. Shabir Barzanjeh, associate professor in the Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Calgary, is exploring the strange and powerful world of quantum science — where atoms, photons and other tiny systems behave in ways that challenge the familiar laws of classical physics. By uncovering and harnessing these unusual quantum behaviours, Barzanjeh is helping translate fundamental discoveries into technologies that could advance computing, improve health care and strengthen Canada’s innovation landscape. Barzanjeh is the recipient of the Killam NRC Paul Corkum Fellowship, supporting collaborative research with Dr. Sergei Studenikin at the National Research Council of Canada (NRC).
