Because the cab has been extended 60mm, roof chopped about 50mm, body dropped 100mm and sectioned 50mm, the original doors no longer fit. At this point it was easier to begin with a blank canvas and make something more aesthetically pleasing than using the original farm truck styled inners. The exception of these being completely hand made was using the original hinge mounting face at the front, it didn't make sense to change that part for the sake of it when it worked once a 100mm section was removed. In this video I show the complete process of building these doors up until the stage you can see in the cover photo. I begin by stripping down the original doors seam by seam to work out what bits I can use and reference from. I talk about treating the door like a jigsaw puzzle, starting with locking in the border (like the edge pieces) before filling in the blank space in the middle. This is a perfect example where form and function need to work hand in hand. There are a lot of moving components within the small door space, I had to modify a lot of the mechanisms in order to work with my design but the design was also largely influenced by the limitations of these components. I built these doors during my second and third trimester of pregnancy and worked right up until the morning she was born trying to get them finished. They're almost complete minus a few little details and some fine tuning. In the next video, I'll likely finish off those areas and work on making the outer skin. Thankyou for following along with the build.
