Today we are walking through Berlin Mitte. More precisely, via Alexanderplatz, past St. Mary's Church, into the Nikolaiviertel, to Museum Island. The Nikolaiviertel is the old Berlin, it is demonstrably the oldest built-up place in Berlin and although a lot was destroyed by all the wars, there are still houses there that are 500 years old and older. Despite all the renovations, from wood to stone and many conversions, St. Nikolai Church stands in the same place as it did 1000 years ago. The Nikolaikirche and the Marienkirche are therefore considered to be the oldest churches in Berlin. We then continue to the city palace, which was only completed in 2020. However, the dome is an original from the original imperial palace, which served as a template for today's Berlin City Palace. Finally, we go to the Museum Island, past the Berlin Cathedral, the Altes Museum to the Alte Nationalgalerie. I hope you enjoy watching and relaxing.
