The Mexico City Metro is probably the most efficient means of getting around Mexico City at only MXN 5.00 (USD 0.30) for a ticket. The significance of this system is that it is the second largest metro system after New York in North America. The big question, however, is it safe for foreigners and tourists? The answer is definitely yes. The train system is super clean, and all stations have an abundance of security staff on duty. Just some general advice when using the system: 1. Travel light (it is not convenient traveling with large luggage). A backpack is fine. 2. Try and avoid traveling during peak hours when workers use the system to go/return from work between the hours of 06:00 am - 09:00 am, and 16:00 pm - 19:00 pm. The system tends to become quite crowded during those hours. If you wish to avoid road congestion with long waiting periods, then the Mexico City Metro is definitely the solution.
