East Farleigh Bridge played a strategic role in the English Civil War (1642–1651) as it was a key crossing point over the River Medway. In 1648, during the Second English Civil War, the bridge was the site of an important skirmish between Royalist forces (supporting King Charles I) and Parliamentarian troops (supporting Parliament). Key Historical Significance: The Royalists, who had taken control of Maidstone, attempted to hold the bridge to prevent Parliamentarian forces from advancing. The Parliamentarians, led by General Fairfax, launched an attack on the Royalist-held positions. After fierce fighting, they managed to cross the bridge and push towards Maidstone. This battle was part of the wider Battle of Maidstone (1 June 1648), which was a significant victory for the Parliamentarians, helping to suppress the Royalist uprising in Kent. East Farleigh Bridge, a 14th-century medieval stone bridge, has stood for centuries as a silent witness to history, from medieval times to the Civil War and beyond. Today, it remains one of the most picturesque and historic landmarks along the River Medway. 📍 Location: East Farleigh, Kent, UK 🇬🇧 📽️ Filmed in: 4K UHD 60fps for the best viewing experience 🔔 Subscribe for more walking videos! @WalkingWorld Tags: #WalkingTour #RiverMedway #EastFarleigh #Maidstone #Kent #UKWalks #RelaxingWalk #4KWalk #WalkingVideo #NatureWalk #ScenicWalk #Swans #EastFarleighBridge #MedwayWalk #RiversideWalk #WalkingUK #VirtualWalk #TravelUK #WalkingThroughHistory
