Production technology of Garden Cress (Halim, Lepidium sativum): 1. Climatic Requirements Temperature: Garden cress grows well in a range of 10-25°C. It prefers a cool climate and performs best when grown in the early spring or during the fall in regions with temperate climates. Sunlight: It requires moderate to full sunlight. Excessive heat or frost can hinder growth and yield. 2. Soil Requirements Soil Type: Well-drained, fertile soils with a good organic matter content are ideal for garden cress cultivation. Sandy loam or loamy soil is preferred. pH: The soil pH should range from 6.0 to 7.5. Preparation: The soil should be tilled to a fine tilth, and organic compost or well-rotted manure should be incorporated to enrich the soil. 3. Sowing and Planting Seed Rate: About 3.5-4 kg of seed per acre is sufficient. Sowing Method: Seeds can be broadcast or sown in rows spaced 15-20 cm apart, with a depth of about 1-1.5 cm. Lightly cover the seeds with soil after sowing. Spacing: Maintain a spacing of 10-15 cm between plants within a row for optimal growth. 4. Watering and Irrigation Garden cress requires regular watering to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. Irrigate immediately after sowing and continue with light, frequent watering until germination. As the plants grow, reduce the frequency but ensure consistent moisture. 5. Nutrient Management Fertilization: Apply a basal dose of well-decomposed organic manure during soil preparation. Additional nitrogen may be applied if the soil is not very fertile. Apply 03 bags of SSP, Plus 15 Kg Urea Plus 10-15 Kg SOP at sowing Organic Fertilizers: Use organic compost to promote healthy growth and ensure nutrient-rich leaves. 6. Weed and Pest Management Weed Control: Keep the field weed-free, especially during the early stages, to prevent competition for nutrients and sunlight. Pests and Diseases: Common pests include aphids and flea beetles, which can be controlled using natural or chemical insecticides. Fungal diseases can be managed by ensuring good air circulation and avoiding overhead irrigation. 7. Harvesting Maturity: Garden cress is ready for harvest 30-40 days after sowing. The leaves can be harvested once they reach a height of 10-15 cm. Harvesting Method: Cut the plants at the base or pluck the leaves as needed. For seed production, let the plant grow until it produces seed pods, which can be harvested and dried. 8. Post-Harvest Management Storage: Fresh leaves can be stored for a few days in a cool, moist environment. Seeds can be dried and stored in airtight containers. This production technology ensures healthy growth and maximizes yield, making Garden Cress a valuable crop both nutritionally and economically. The seeds are tiny, slightly long and reddish brown in colour and are called halim in Hindi, aaliv in Marathi and asario in Gujarati. garden cress seeds aliv seeds benefits halim seeds benefits halim seeds post pregnancy aliv seeds postpartum all about halim seeds how to consume aliv seeds how much halim seeds in a day health benefits of aliv aliv for hormonal balance halim seeds for hormonal balance halim seeds for pcos pcod हलीम के बीज के फायदे halim seeds nutrition best ways to consume halim seeds halim seeds for weight loss When to take halim seeds aliv seeds for weight loss aliv seeds to lose weight halim seeds for fat loss halim seeds side effects Who should avoid halim seeds halim seeds recipes aliv seeds for belly fat Cress (Lepidium sativum), sometimes referred to as garden cress (or curly cress) to distinguish it from similar plants #hilum #halim #haloon #peppergrass #brasicaceae #gardencress #halimseed #alivseeds #gardencress #lepidiumsativum #halimseeds #cressfarming #herbgrowing #urbanagriculture #gardencresstech #organicgardencress #nutritiousgreens #hydroponiccress #microgreens #herbalremedies #soilpreparation #cropmanagement #sustainablefarming Growing Garden Cress: A Complete Guide Optimal Practices for Garden Cress Cultivation Garden Cress Farming Techniques Simplified How to Grow Healthy Garden Cress Garden Cress: Sowing to Harvesting Tips Maximize Your Garden Cress Yield Efficient Production Technology for Garden Cress Garden Cress: Best Practices for High Yield Step-by-Step Guide to Garden Cress Cultivation Boost Your Garden Cress Farming Success
