Some of the early music in the Boosey and Hawkes Recorded Music Library (1945 – 1947) were items, mostly marches, played by well known military bands. Here is an example that I imagine most people have forgotten. 'The Britisher' is a march composed by Captain Thomas S. Chandler, who is also the conductor on these performances by the Band of the Welsh Guards. 'Tommy' Chandler, as he was known, joined the Guards in 1937 and was Director of Music for 11 years (On his retirement he was succeeded by Leslie Statham, also known as Arnold Steck). The Arnold Saffroni march 'Imperial Echoes' is on side B. (M 2025) According to notes in my Boosey & Hawkes catalogue, discs with the prefix 'M' had red labels and featured military bands. Other classifications were 'O' (green) for orchestra performances and 'V', blue labels for vocal/choir recordings. (These letters refer to 10 inch 78 rpm discs. For12 inch discs, the letter 'T' was added.) An interesting look back at the immediate post WWII period with the Band of the Welsh Guards.
