In this week's category management tip, Sue Nicholls will walk you through some examples of when an "index" measure is used in category management (Index vs ACV; Fair Share Index). There is a tendency to generalize and say that an index over 100 is "good", or overdeveloped, and an index below 100 is "bad", or underdeveloped. But as Sue explains, the index should only be seen as a benchmark, and needs to be tied in with a retailer or supplier's strategies before you can determine if the number is "good" or "bad".
