Total rainbow trout in the video: 4 Best rainbow trout in the video: 1:38 (& 8:56) I was trout fishing with egg sacks in small streams in New York during spring (mid April, 2015). I was fishing for rainbow trout with friends. We brought salmon eggs, nightcrawlers, crazy eggs, glow bugs, and other lures, but what we ended up using most were hand-tied egg sacks made with eggs from an earlier trip, some in chartreuse mesh and others in orange mesh. We rigged the egg sacks onto #6 octopus or egg hooks and 8 lb main line (with a split shot around 20" up from the hook) and drifted the egg sacks through runs and pools on little streams. I ended up catching a rainbow trout around 20", and later I caught a big rainbow trout over 26" and around 8lb (well over master angler length and pushing trophy range for that water). This is one of many videos in the Bait Fishing series -- watch others for numbers of fish, trophy fish, the tips and techniques I pick up along the way, and more!
