This video talks about Menstrual Cycle and HPG Axis. The menstrual cycle is a hormonally regulated process that prepares the female reproductive system for potential pregnancy and is controlled by the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis. The hypothalamus secretes gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), which stimulates the anterior pituitary to release follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH). FSH promotes the development of ovarian follicles, while LH triggers ovulation. In the follicular phase, FSH stimulates the growth of follicles and the release of estrogen, which thickens the endometrium. Around mid-cycle, a surge in LH leads to ovulation, releasing a mature oocyte. After ovulation, the luteal phase begins, where the corpus luteum forms and secretes progesterone and estrogen to maintain the endometrium for possible implantation. If fertilization does not occur, the corpus luteum degenerates, leading to a decline in hormone levels, causing menstruation and the restart of the cycle. This video will help you learn the basics and foundational knowledge needed to ace your exams!
