Actually, it doesn't measure the concentration of oxygen in the exhaust gas directly, but rather calculates the difference between the amount of oxygen in the exhaust gas and the amount of oxygen in the air. This difference is converted into a voltage signal that is continuously fed back to the engine control unit (ECU or ECM) to help us optimize the car's performance. If the engine has too much or too little fuel, the ECU receives a signal and automatically adjusts the optimal ratio of fuel to air.
