It operates as train number 12834 from Howrah to Ahmedabad and as train number 12833 in the reverse direction. It connect states of West Bengal, Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Gujarat. The 12834 Howrah–Ahmedabad Superfast Express covers the distance of 2087 kilometres in 37 hours 05 mins (56.28 km/h) & in 37 hours 35 mins (55.53 km/h) as 12833 Ahmedabad–Howrah Superfast Express. As the average speed of the train is above 55 km/h, as per Indian Railways rules, its fare includes a Superfast surcharge. The 12834/33 Howrah–Ahmedabad Superfast Express runs via Kharagpur Junction, Rourkela Junction, Bilaspur Junction, Raipur Junction, Nagpur Junction, Bhusaval Junction, Nandurbar, Surat & Vadodara Junction. In this video, we travel from Nagpur Junction, the geographical center of the country, to Vadodara Junction, one of Western Railway’s busiest and most important nodes. Despite being a premium Superfast service connecting Howrah (HWH) with Ahmedabad (ADI), the train was running approximately 2 hours late on this stretch. Delays like these are not uncommon on such long end-to-end routes, especially considering congestion, pathing issues, and priority traffic across multiple railway zones. Still, the journey offered plenty for railfans to enjoy. The route from Nagpur to Vadodara is operationally fascinating. Departing Nagpur under Central Railway, the train heads west via Wardha Junction, entering the electrified trunk routes of Maharashtra. The line then passes through Badnera Junction, a major crew and locomotive change point, before touching Akola, Shegaon, and Bhusaval Junction — one of Indian Railways’ most critical junctions where Central and Western Railway networks intersect. Post Bhusaval, the landscape gradually changes as the train enters Western Railway territory, speeding through Gujarat’s broad plains. Stations like Nandurbar, Surat, and Bharuch showcase high-density passenger and freight movement, with constant overtakes, crossings, and signal checks. Even with the delay, the train maintained decent sectional speeds, showing the capability of the route and the power of modern electric traction. This stretch is a treat for rail enthusiasts — long straight sections, continuous OHE, busy block sections, and a mix of express, freight, and suburban traffic. From curve transitions to station approaches, the cab dynamics and line-side action keep the journey engaging throughout. As we approach Surat, you can spot the upcoming rolling stock maintenance depot of the Mumbai - Ahmedabad High Speed Rail, which is expected to home the Shinkansen E5 trains. Between Surat and Vadodara, the train hits a maximum speed of 130 kmph on what are arguably the best maintained route on Indian Railways. Crossing the rivers Narmada and Tapti, the major west-bound rivers of the Indian peninsula, the train reaches Vadodara via Bharuch, crossing the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor a couple of times. Vadodara Junction marks a major milestone on the route, acting as a gateway to western India and a crucial halt for long-distance expresses.
