In this series of videos we're taking you through the steps from the initial module kit to a module complete with track, wiring and basic scenery. Okay, we've got the ground cover on the module (but not glued down, so be careful what you touch and sneeze on!) so now it's time to add ballast on the tracks. Don't forget to cover your switch points with tape to keep the ballast and glue from gumming up the works. As to the ballast, there are many ways to go about getting it down. David's crew uses a pastry bag while others have used paper cups. The important thing is to take your time and be careful not to dump too much ballast on the track. After you've got it down, use a paint brush or other instrument to shape it properly - it should be between the ties and below (not above the ties or rail), sloping down into the grass. Don't forget to use the right ballast for the tracks you are putting it on (the AMRS has different standards depending on the railroad and the type of track; these standards are listed on our web site.). Thanks to David, Sam, and Dan for this segment.
