What is certain is that important settlements rose in its territory in Roman times and subsequently, in the Lombard age, monastic and feudal curtes and castra (fortified centers), one of which later established itself above all, becoming the only place of residence for the scattered population. The origin of the name is not certain whether it comes from a gentleman, named Morico or from the Moor family, or from the toponym morro, morrecine, which stands for stony place. There are two other theories, in sharp contrast to each other: the first wants that a group of Moors, in their raids along the Adriatic coast, went a little further inland to build a stronghold; the second instead states that the Castrum Morisci was built near the sea precisely to repel the assaults of the Saracens. The first news of the castle dates back to 1083 and documents dating back to the 12th century testify to the regency of Tebaldo, count of Moresco. In the 13th century the castle passed into ownership to the city of Fermo. First by the hand of Frederick II, then at the behest of King Manfredi and definitively, in 1266, when the lords of Moresco sold the fortress of the castle to the Doge of Venice, and mayor of Fermo, Lorenzo Tiepolo. Since then it will remain the castle of Fermo until the unification of Italy. Once the inhabitants were freed from feudal ties, Moresco became a municipality and was governed by a council of Massari and a Vicar appointed by Fermo. In 1868 it loses its municipal autonomy and becomes a hamlet of Monterubbiano. It returns to being an autonomous municipality, with a royal decree, on June 26, 1910, also on the initiative of Arturo Vecchini.
