Story of the Wreck Of The Amsterdam. The Dutch ship that was wrecked on the coast of Hastings. The ship was on her maiden voyage bound for the East Indies. There were 28 chests of Silver ingots on board, they were in the middle of the worst storm for years and the men were dying at the rate of 5 per day. After she beached at Hastings there was a drunken mutiny and theft galore. They reckon that most of the cargo still lays preserved in the hold as an 18th century time capsule. The Dutch want to take the ship home but with economic doom and the slippery waters of the channel will they ever manage? Update: I wrongly identified the Dutch Royal visitors to the wreck. They were in fact Princess Magriet, her husband Pieter and two of her sons. Princes Bernhard and Pieter. Thanks to ‪@roown1‬ for the info which I have confirmed elsewhere.
