In 2024 testing, almost all contaminants were removed at essentially 100%. Strontium was 96%, and fluoride ranged 41–99% due to lab limitations. In 2025 testing, fluoride and all other measured contaminants were reduced 100%. A small amount of aluminum (0.05 ppm) appeared in the 2024 sample but not in 2025; still far below the strictest health guideline (0.6 ppm). Usability: Larger tanks mean fewer refills and more purified water available at once. Dispensing is extremely fast (about 1 cup in ~3 seconds). Downsides are a larger footprint and plastic clean-water tank. Smart version adds an app for filter status, TDS readings, usage tracking, reminders, and ordering filters. Wastewater & Speed: Filters about 1.09 gallons in ~13 minutes, producing ~0.65 gallons of purified water (pure-to-drain ratio ~1:0.61). Costs: $375 with our link (regular price $475). Smart version $425 with link. Estimated filter cost ~$86/year. 1-year warranty. AquaTru Carafe + Carafe Smart Filtration: Very strong overall. In 2024 testing, boron was reduced 60%, strontium 98%, and fluoride 67%; iron and zinc were not fully removed but were only aesthetic at the measured levels. In 2025 testing, contaminant reduction reached 100% across the board. Aluminum increased slightly after filtration (0.04 ppm in 2024, 0.0809 ppm in 2025); not ideal but far below the 0.6 ppm guideline. Usability: Smaller, lighter, and stores purified water in a borosilicate glass carafe. However, the smaller tanks mean slightly more frequent refills, filter replacement requires a removal tool, and the 2025 unit was noticeably noisier. Smart version adds the same app features as the Classic Smart. Wastewater & Speed: Filters ~0.75 gallons in ~12.5 minutes, producing ~0.48 gallons of purified water (pure-to-drain ratio ~1:0.5), slightly better than the Classic. Costs: $275 with our link, or $325 for the Smart version. Estimated filter cost ~$140/year. 1-year warranty. Bottom line: The Classic models score slightly higher overall thanks to small usability advantages and lower long-term filter costs. The Carafe models are still a great option if you want lower upfront cost, a smaller footprint, lighter weight, glass water storage, and slightly less wastewater.
