Alexander Litvinovsky ‘Master Cat’ Suite for trumpet and string orchestra Performed by the BTRC orchestra Conductor: Alexander Sosnovsky Soloists: Andrej Olejnick and Michael Kozlov (trumpets) Alexander Litvinovsky continues to work fruitfully in the genre of theatrical suite. “Master Cat” for trumpet and string orchestra is a new example created in the summer of 2020 based on its own music, which at one time graced the production of the play “Puss in Boots”. It is not hard to guess that the basis of that production was the popular fairy tale of the same name by Charles Perrault. Having revised the musical material intended specifically for the stage performance, Alexander Litvinovsky reworked the theatrical tracks into a kind of score, in which the genre of the suite received its original embodiment. The author avoids simple illustrativeness, does not interpret the suite as a formal selection of beautiful musical drawings that can be transformed into independent concert miniatures, separated from the general structure and performed separately. The peculiarity of the “Master Cat” suite lies in its dramatic overtones: through a series of bright, diverse numbers with expressive program names, the familiar plot of the original source, embodied in musical images, is outlined and developed. The “Master Cat” suite ( 24’30’’) consists of 10 parts and a kind of bonus for the listener – the final happy end. Here are their names: “Master Cat”, “Princess Promenade”, “Kingdom”, “Night Watch”, “King’s Fanfare”, “Serenade”, “Wizard”, “Brave Heart”, “Wedding Cortege”, “Feast” and additional number – final idyllic genre image "Farmyard".
