Jeff Salzenstein, Former top 100 ATP Player and USTA High-Performance Coach, shares three steps to hit powerful two handed backhands. He demonstrates and explains each step in great detail, so you can hit your tennis backhand better than ever. 1. Tempo Focus on following the ball with your strings as you take the racquet back, and then bring it forward to create good rhythm and tempo. You will need to adjust your swing path depending on the speed of the ball. 2. Relaxation Avoid gripping the racquet too tight, so you can get better acceleration and power on your backhand. Instead, work on relaxing your bottom hand at the end of the swing. Once you feel comfortable with it, try to wiggle the fingers on both hands. 3. Footwork When you step into your backhand, make sure to bring the back leg around to fully square in and get in a low base. These tips can help you make major breakthroughs the next time you step on the court. Jeff believes that if you create the awareness, you can start to make changes in your tennis and improve faster.
