C17 974 - Cab Ride from Stanthorpe to Wallangarra - Saturday 12th April 2014

On Saturday 12th April 2014, the Southern Downs Steam Railway ran a steam train from Warwick to Stanthorpe and Wallangarra using QR Heritage Steam Locomotive C17 974, on loan to the Southern Downs Steam Railway while steam locomotive C17 971 is repaired, following a major breakdown in November 2013. We join the footplate crew with Driver John Davis and Fireman Adrian Hurley as we continue heading Southwards from Stanthorpe to Wallangarra. After leaving Stanthorpe we run down grade to the impressive Quort Pot Creek Bridge at 107m in length, we pass through the locations of Glen Aplin, Fletcher, and Ballandean before the heavy steaming commences. We eventually arrive at Wallangarra in time for lunch, 103 km from Warwick. Also included is a portion of the return journey, which includes the climb up Fletcher bank and a final shot of the train rolling down grade through the Gorge Tunnel in the late afternoon.
